Text within this block will maintain its original spacing when publishedAI is used to generate skills needed to become a great BDR and for their description. This was originally written for my Linkedin post, but I thought it might be interesting sharing it also here with my beloved readers.
One activity that taught me more about Business Development than any other BD course.Certain skills are essential to effectively identify, nurture, and close new partnerships. And if my sister and I knew to do something, that's to befriend strangers.
Here are some common skills that a BDR must develop to be great at what they do that two of us mastered:🌎 Business Acumen: Understanding the broader business context, industry trends, and competitor analysis can enhance a BDR's ability to position its offerings effectively. We would only go to a particular place if we knew what exactly we were getting into. Understanding your environment is the first thing we ensure we are familiar with before going anywhere.🌎 Emotional Intelligence: Understanding and managing emotions in oneself and prospects can help BDRs navigate challenging situations and build rapport. This one was important. We couldn't just be ourselves since we knew guys wouldn't receive particular messages the way we wanted them, so we always had to balance throwing jokes around and males not engaging their egos. Not to mention other females’ jealousy.🌎 Resilience and Persistence: Sales can be challenging, and rejection is common. That's why we never accepted NO as an answer when security guards didn't let us in the club. BDRs need to be resilient and persistent to handle setbacks and keep pushing forward. And that's what we did!

🌎 Adaptability: The business landscape can change rapidly, so BDRs must be adaptable and quick to adjust their strategies and approaches accordingly.Whatever happened externally never stopped us from having the most fun that night!🌎 Negotiation Skills: Negotiating with prospects and handling objections effectively is essential for successful deal closures. We had to negotiate a free table in the restaurant most of the time since we never reserved it upfront. It was more like an internal challenge to get a table for that night by negotiating when we arrived.🌎 CRM Proficiency: My sister proficiently used her social media accounts to keep track of interactions with new prospects (friends).
Let me know what helped you become a better BDR.
With love,
Angela
