Building a company is not easy; it’s actually harder than I thought.

Your brain is constantly crying out for short dopamine hits - while regularly craving monthly paychecks.

Salary. The worst drug in the world. One that keeps you enslaved in the matrix's loop.

Hard to resist, even harder to get rid of.

I am not going to surrender easily. Wonder Woman still shined bright in me.

By the day, it is kinder and more resilient.

Ready to free enprisoned soules.

Protect innocent, instigate vulnerable, encourage defeated.

Defeat is not real.

Defeat is one station on the rails of life. Infinite journey. Some passengers jump on the train and leave, while some stay on the train forever, taking the role of locomotive engineer driving the wave of hills and valleys alongside you.

Building the business is one giant video game.

Each day is a different task to be resolved, a new mission to be completed, and another character to be adopted.

You are navigating ups and downs while trying to maintain overall net positive results.

Entrepreneurship is beautifully the way it is -impossible to fathom, never-ending game.

It’s like parenthood; all your life, you are listening to stories from others, thinking you will be ready when your turn comes, just to realize that no lecture or advice can’t prepare you when that time comes.

16th June 2023

Today I had a call with the CEO of a prominent start-up accelerator.

Naively I was expecting a happy, long-lasting partnership to be celebrated at the end of the call when in contrast, I got slapped with the following:

We don’t want to be the first to join the empty dancefloor.

If you are confused about what the empty dancefloor syndrome means, let me explain to you:

When nobody is dancing, and the dancefloor is empty, nobody wants to join the dancefloor first.

When the dancefloor is packed, everybody dances, and people fight to take part in it.

It’s a chicken-egg problem, apparently.

To celebrate this provocation, I am announcing here publicly:

I know I know… it is my ego talking.

I acknowledge it and accept it.

I find my strength and fuel in creating these small competitions and finding “enemies” I have to win over.

Nothing scary, just the nature of business and my weird character.

It’s healthy and acceptable while in the range of pro-creation.

I will leave you with this picture:

I am signing off.

Peace out, brothers and sisters,

Love you all.

Your Andela <3
